Big data will change the way organizations advance their Industrial Internet Strategy, suggests the GE Industrial Internet Insights Report for 2015.

Of the 250 executives surveyed, fewer than one-third are leveraging big data for predictive analytics or to inform business decisions.

Though a majority of executives surveyed believe that big data will change the competitive landscape within their industry, there are challenges. Many companies cite a lack of workplace talent—specifically, data scientists who can adequately analyze the data.

“As one of the executives we spoke to commented, ‘It’s great to have the data but then you need the people to analyze it and generate insights,’” said Matt Reilly, board member at Mogean, Inc. “Better hiring is one obvious path to filling in talent gaps, but predictions point to a dramatic shortage of data scientists in the future.”
